The Lackluster Generation

I was having a conversation with one of my collegues upon observing members of the new generation - or as I would like to call them the Lackluster Generation. We were talking about how us 90's kids grew up in a time of political conscience and emotional revolutions. When we grew up popular culture was trying to be real and there was a strong anti-establishment to everything from the plead shirts to gangsta rap to politcial correctness, that was the air we grew up in. In the 90's independant movies meant a glorious experience and indie music was taking over, giving rise to such greats as Ani DiFranco.
But now the Lackluster Generation have exchanged Lilith Fair for Murder Inc.. It seems that everyone is so into the bling-bling and the glamour. Hip Hop has been reduced to being billboards for hate and/or brand names. The divas-in-training support Bush (Britney Spears), have erased the notion of feminism (Mandy Moore), killed grrl rock (Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch) or are too dumb to form a sentance (Jessica Simpson).
The youngsters under observation either wanted to be rappers or the floosies with them singing the chorus. It's cool to be mysoginistic and homophobic. Susan B. Anthony must be rolling over in her grave.

I have yet to see something positive from this generation that is so into self-love and lack a yearning for bettering this place. All they want is ass and cash.
