My English

English is not my native tongue, but it sure is my first language. So it comes as a surprise when Grad School make mandatory a TOEFL test for international students. I took it today and I got 283 (657 paper-based), which is fabulous. But, I still wonder what I got wrong. It must've been the really dumb questions that I thought were trick questions. It like asking a mathmatician this: 2-3=x. The answer might be easy, but they have to think twice or hesitate. Not that I am perfect at English....but, a TOEFL...please! Aced it back in 99.

Rhythm Nation 1814

A lot of you are wondering why my name and address are 1814. Well, I thought it would be a great idea to associate this blog with a reference from culture that also has a political connotation because it is fitting.

It is the name of one of Janet Jackson's earlier albums that was heavy on dance beats and political agenda, which, to me, is the perfect mixture. You can dance to it and it has a great message, pop culture is the culture of the modern human.

"1814" stands for the first 2 letters of the album's title, the R and the N, and it also happens to be the year that women, in the states, where given thier right to education. So, this is where I get 1814 from. Get the album, you'll know what I am talking about.
